Those Jimmy Kimmel videos are so shocking! I felt like a genius as well! I don't think my geographical knowledge was the best before. It was never Jimmy Kimmel level bad but I don't remember studying geography that much in school. I wanted to be better at it, so a few years ago I downloaded a fun game-like app that teaches it at the same time. Even tiny things like that helped a lot!
